Adam Driver Says He'd Love It If Star Wars: Episode VIII Premiered Without Any Trailers

When it comes to Hollywood, the industry has its advertisement schemes on-lock. The entertainment industry is more saturated with content than ever before, and studios realize they must aggressive promote their projects if they want a box-office return. In the past several days, films like Spider-Man: Homecoming and Transformers: The Last Knight have shown off their goods to get fans hyped.

But, if you were to ask Adam Driver about Star Wars’ marketing plans, he may say the whole shtick is optional.

In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Driver spoke to the site about Star Wars: Episode VIII and its upcoming promotions. When asked if he’d be happy to see Episode VIII drop into theater sans trailers, the actor had this to say: “I think that'd be bold. I'd love it, yeah! Then no one would know anything. The less people know, I feel like, the more exciting... the more of an event it is.”

there’s no way Lucasfilm would decide to forego a promotional campaign for Episode VIII. The studio’s release of Episode VII was met with international fanfare, so Lucasfilm will surely want to squeeze every penny they can from the upcoming saga installment. The studio has already done as much for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, so Driver will have to come to terms with another grueling round of press junkets and interviews next year.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits US theaters December 16, 2016. Directed by Gareth Edwards, it's the first of the new standalone features from Lucasfilm and Disney, which take place outside the core "Skywalker Saga" of films noted by an Episode number. Rogue Onetells the story of the small band of rebels that were tasked with stealing the plans to the first Death Star. The story spins directly off the opening crawl from the original Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. In that crawl, it read: "Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet."

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set between the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and shortly before the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. In the film, resistance fighters embark on a daring mission to steal the Empire's plans for the Death Star.
