The Fate of Star Wars: 1313, The Mature, Gritty Star Wars Game

1313 2

While the Star Wars video game universe is in good hands over at EA – what with Star Wars: Battlefront II coming our way next year and a new game coming from Visceral and Uncharted writer Amy Hennig – we couldn’t help but think what kind of turn the franchise could’ve taken had LucasArts stayed open and it had continued development on a long-lost project in the Star Wars fold – 1313.
This game was introduced a while back by the LucasArts team, and, at one point, it looked to be the most mature title in the Star Wars saga, taking a much grittier direction than most of the products that had landed on shelves. The team was knee deep in its development as well, and even managed to show off gameplay footage, promising a breakneck action/adventure game for everyone to appreciate.
Alas, it was not to be, and LucasArts folded up shop soon thereafter, with the franchise going over to EA after the Star Wars property was sold to Disney. But we can’t help but think – what kind of road could 1313 had taken if it had stayed the course in development?
Join us as we look back on this lost Star Wars title, which looks to have the same level of dedication and action as this weekend’s just-released Rogue One. We take a look at what the game could’ve become, and why it bit the dust all too soon.
