Ryan Reynolds Explains Why Deadpool Was Nominated For Golden Globe Award
speaking to Deadline, Reynolds told the site that Deadpool caught the eye of award voters and fans with its unconventional aesthetic. “It’s important to note that in regards to Deadpool‘s narrative material, the film came along at exactly the right time when we (the industry) reached the peak of superhero (movies) and Deadpool was 90 degrees to it,” he said.
“There’s been a lot of superhero films that have been brilliant, and there’s a seriousness and darkness to them. At the end of the day, it’s about guys walking around in tights. Deadpooltook these tropes and usurped them in inventive waysWhen it comes to acting categories, several actors have been honored. In 2009, Heath Ledger won best supporting actor for his work on Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knightseries following his tragic death. Jack Nicholson also earned a Golden Globe nomination for playing the Joker in 1989’s Batman.
What makes Deadpool unique is its picture award consideration. The film is up for best motion picture in the musical/comedy category which is something no superhero has managed to secure before. So, it’s not too surprising to hear that the team behind Deadpoolwas rather stoked to hear about the nomination.
Soon after the news broke, Reynolds took to Twitter to celebrate the occasion. The actor wrote, "Thank you, Golden Globes! As we speak, the entire Deadpool team is engaged in a grotesque, early morning tickle-fight."
