Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Rebels Take on Empire in New Magazine Covers
All day Tuesday, Empire Magazine revealed their six character-only variant covers for their Rogue One: A Star Wars Story issue. The six covers join their previously revealed Subscriber-only cover featuring the Death Star blueprints. The covers feature Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed), Chirrut Îmwe (Donnie Yen), Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen), and finally the droid K-2SO (Alan Tudyk).
The issue of Empire (can't get over how perfect it is for them to have the Death Star plastered all over their covers) hits newsstands November 24, 2016.
The images don't seem to show too much new here. Jyn has a far off look in her eyes, one that seems more surprised than determined or hopeful, the primary message of the marketing team. Andor's expression, meanwhile, isn't quite sadness, but maybe exhaustion. The war-weary look is recognizable to anyone who has served or is close to someone who has. Bodhi Rook's cover is interesting, as the former Imperial side-eyes the future. You can tell that while he switched sides from the Empire to the Rebel Alliance, Rook isn't sure anyside has things 100% right. Chirrut's cover is bold and self-assured: "Everything is as the Force wills it." Baze Malbus trusts one man: Chirrut Îmwe, who he has sworn to protect. His determination to do so is heavier than the weapons he carries. And K-2SO looks like he pretty much doesn't give a sh*t. So maybe the stills of these characters say more about them than you first suspect.
