Fantastic Beasts Sequels Won't All Focus On Newt Scamander
If you have seen Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, then you already know there are not one but two stars of the film: Newt Scamander and the Niffler. The wizard and his adorable rascally creature charmed fans when the Harry Potter spin-off hit theaters, and audiences are clearly loving the magical flick. Fantastic Beasts is poised to turn into another wondrous series thanks to JK Rowling - but don’t expect these two fellas to play a major role in every film. Apparently, more stars will be folded into the franchise soon enough.
In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, producer David Heyman was asked whether Eddie Redmayne’s role would always be the franchise’s heart, and he said that wasn’t the case. “I don't think [Newt will be at] the heart of all of them. I think he'll be part -- so will Tina, Queenie and Jacob -- will be part of the next one,” he said.
Heyman also said that Albus Dumbledore would be joining the series as well, and the wise wizard would surely steal a hoard of fans to his side. The producer also hinted that Credence would become an important character as Grindelwald continues to expand his revolution into a full-fledged war.
If you have already seen Fantastic Beasts, then you know the producer’s words are a bit shocking. The end of the film led fans to believe that Credence had been killed by aurors after turning into a dark, magical entity known as an Obscurus. Apparently, the boy is still alive though perhaps not well, and he will have more to do with the series moving forward.Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an all-new adventure returning us to the wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling. Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) stars in the central role of wizarding world magizoologist Newt Scamander, under the direction of David Yates, who helmed the last four Harry Potter blockbusters. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them also stars Katherine Waterston (Steve Jobs, Inherent Vice) as Tina; Tony Award winner Dan Fogler (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) as Jacob; Alison Sudol (Dig, Transparent) as Tina’s sister, Queenie; Ezra Miller (Trainwreck) as Credence; two-time Oscar nominee Samantha Morton (In America, Sweet and Lowdown) as Mary Lou; Oscar winner Jon Voight (Coming Home, TV’s Ray Donovan) as Henry Shaw, Sr.; Ron Perlman (the Hellboy films) as Gnarlack; Carmen Ejogo (Selma) as Seraphina; Jenn Murray (Brooklyn) as Chastity; young newcomer Faith Wood-Blagrove as Modesty; and Colin Farrell (True Detective) as Percival Graves.
